SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks through a command line. The protocol is preferred by many skilled users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be used for a number of things with regards to the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the server permits it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually anything - you could install software or restart certain services like the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients which allow you to employ the protocol if your laptop or computer is working with a different OS as well. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port though many service providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Web Hosting
When you have a cloud web hosting account with us and you want to manage your content remotely via SSH, you can receive SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal doesn't come with this feature as standard, you can easily add it with a couple of clicks from the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the CP, you'll see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You may also select what password you want to use, as it does not need to be the same as the one for your account. We have prepared several Help articles in which you may find all of the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they're used. Furthermore, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and manage them through SSH. If the plan that you've chosen includes this feature by default, you simply need to enable the SSH access feature using the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the function is listed as an additional upgrade, you may quickly include it using the Add Services/Upgrades link within the Hepsia Control Panel and it will be available within a minute. We have various help articles and educational videos regarding the use of SSH commands to handle your account and a whole list of the commands you can carry out alongside a number of examples to provide you with a better understanding of what you can do. If SSH is enabled, you will also be able to set up an SFTP connection to the account and to upload files safely through any FTP application which supports the feature.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
If you order a new VPS server from us, it'll provide full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to handle everything using an SSH console. The function comes as standard with all plans, so you will not have to enable or upgrade anything. Your server shall be set up soon after you buy it and the moment you get the Welcome email with the login information, you could connect using the server’s primary IP address and start working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts within the physical machine, there will be no restrictions regarding the commands you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you may set up and run any application that can work on a Linux server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software operating on it.
